I received a very nice email from a descendent of one of the Officers who served with the AC Wing:

Just a quick introduction from myself and a thanks for your website.

I am currently researching my Great Uncle, Charles Francis Toogood, and whilst I am slowly building up a good picture of him during WW1 and WW2 I have been having difficulty in the inter-war period.

Unfortunately the transcript I have of his service record from  the RAF is of a poor quality and not very useful.  However with the aid of your site and a few other sources my research has been 'kick-started' again and like yourself I'm embarking on studying the role of the RAF AAC in the 1920s and early 30s to get a better picture of my Great Uncles exploits.

Many thanks for posting up your research on your web-site.

My reasons for creating this website were to recognise the forgotten personnel who served in one of the outposts of the Empire between the wars, and to help those who maybe researching their ancesters who may have served in Iraq. To receive a thanks is a very nice surprise and has given me a much needed nudge to get back to updating the site more regularly. I also received a more detailed summary of C F Toogood's service history, which I have posted on this page.

After over of year of having setup this website I was finally able to visit The National Archives and copy a variety of ORBS. Over the next few weeks and months I hope to transcribe some of the more interesting details from them. The information will be posted within the relevant sub-pages in this section. As my time was limited I focused on my original intention for this site, and copied those files relevant to Iraq during the Interwar and WW2 periods. In my next visit I hope to copy everything else I can get my hands upon TNA.

After a couple of weeks break, I'm back with a dedicated domain name, and some more content (now that I've got my scanner working again!!). I added some scans of inter-war awards to AAC members from a fantastic book entitled  In Adversity: Exploits of Gallantry and Awards Made to the R.A.F.Regiment and Its Associated Forces, 1921-95

I am also rather excited as I finally ordered The Insurrection in Mesopotamia, 1920 . I had been holding out for a cheaper copy but no such luck. Though it probably won't go into much detail for the scope of this site, it appears to be THE book to read about irregular warfare in Iraq, and many of the points raised in the book will help explore/explain the nature and terrain in which the RAF ACCs worked through the next two decades. I just have to wait two or three weeks for the book to arrive from the States!! I am so impatient.

I was thinking of upgrading to the professional version of weebly but the benefits don't seem that great, especially as I won't be adding much media.
