REPORT ON OPERATIONS IN PALESTINE - No 3 SECTION, No 1 ARMOURED CAR COMPANY

 27.8.29
On 27th August, 1929, No 3 Section, No 1 Armoured Car Wing, was ordered to "stand by" to proceed to Palestine at 6 hours notice.

2.9.29
On 2.9.29, 8 Armoured Car personnel of No 3 Section left Hinaidi by Nairn Overland convoy for Aboukir, for duty with a new Armoured Car Section forming there and earmarked for duty in Palestine.

4.9.29

On 4.9.29 No 3 Section left Hinaidi for Palestine.

6.9.29
The Section arrived at Amman on 6.9.29. Here they remained for 10 days, "standing by" at 4 hours notice. During this time only one reconnaissance was carried out - around No 2 Company's area - inspecting tracks and cairns.

16.9.29
On 16.9.29 the Section left Amman for Ramleh, arriving there the same day. Here they remained for 21 days, during which time the Section was "standing by" at a few hours notice.

21.9.29
On 21.9.29 a special reconnaissance was carried out with 2 Rolls Royce Armoured Cars, 1 Royals Royce W/T tender, 1 Morris six wheeler, and 1 Ford; escorting Air Vice-Marshal Dowding who had just taken over command of the forces in Palestine. The route taken was:- NABLUS-JENIN-NAZARETH-TIBERIAS-JISR-MEJAMIE, returning by the same route.

7.10.29
On 7.10.29 the Section proceeded to Haifa, arriving there the same day. From this date onwards 2 Rolls Royce Armoured Cars carried out 2 patrols daily from RAS-EL-KRUM through Haifa to a point 4 miles along the Nazareth road. During the trial of Jewish and Arab prisoners at Haifa, 2 Rolls Royce Armoured Cars were standing by continuously; one at the Court and one at the Governorat. These two cars were also used as daily escort for prisoners to and from the gaol at Acre. In addition to the above, whilst at Haifa one Rolls Royce Armoured Car and crew were always "standing by" at a moment's notice in Camp.

The following reconnaissances were carried out from Haifa, the objects being to visit German and Jewish colonies, to learn the operations area, and to report on roads and tracks.

On 1.11.29 a special reconnaissance for the Army was ordered, to find out if it was possible to get cars southwards from BEISAN. The route taken was:- HAIFA-ABU SHUSHE-EL AFULE-BEISAN; from there a very rough track was followed due south but owing to floods caused by irrigation, the Section was unable to get beyond a point 10 miles south of BEISAN. Even if there had been no floods it would have been impossible to get Armoured Cars beyond the track down to the Jordan. The same route was taken on the return journey.

11.11.29
On 11.11.29 a Victoria aircraft of No 70 (BT) Squadron left Hinaidi for Ramleh, conveying winter clothing of personnel of No 3 Section, Armoured Car Wing.

On 25.11.29 a reconnaissance of the following route was made:- HAIFA-ATHLIT-TANTURA-LIKTERA-KAKON-TEL KERAM-KALKULI-JAFFA-RAMLEH

2.12.29
On 2.12.29 the Section left Haifa for Amman

4.12.29
On 4.12.29 they left Amman for Iraq, arriving Hinaidi on 11.12.29
